Winter like weather kept most anglers home, but Scott Treadway, owner of Get Bent Baits, showed that the striper bite right through the cold weather. Anglers used live worms, cut sardines, and Scott’s secret bait too fool fish up to 30”. This week Treadway revealed he will be sharing his secret bait with all of Bakersfield. Scott is working with local tackle shops to provide a wintertime striper favorite, live grass shrimp. Check in with Cope’s employees to find out when the new bait will be available. Lure anglers reported fair results for line sides on jerkbaits, rattle traps, and swimbaits. Catfish anglers soaked dip bait, chicken liver, and cut sardines for decent results. Bait fishing has been best after check gates for all species. Largemouth were on the slow side, but anglers who targeted them found biters in the eddies before and after check gates while using finesse techniques and topwater lures.
