Los Vaqueros Fishing Report
Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)
by Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz

On February 5, 2026, Paul Clouse, Ted Cribari, and Al Hurwitz trolled multiple coves on the eastern and western sides of Los Vaqueros Reservoir (LVR), looking for Rainbow Trout. It was a long and arduous day, lacking the outstanding success we achieved one week ago. We did manage to hook up and play three nice Mt. Lassen Rainbows, but regrettably were only able to land one of them. Two others (nice sized fish) got off at the side of the boat before they could be netted. We had 4-5 additional bites as well that didn’t stay pinned. Pictured here is Ted with a beautiful 2.8 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow he caught flatline trolling a 1/4 oz. RoxStar Feathered Spinner in a 20 foot water column in Howden Cove. In spite of our using a large variety of lures, the only ones that drew strikes were a Kastmaster, Mickey Finn Streamer, Little Cleo, and the RoxStar Spinner.
We felt that the bite was off this week due to a bright full moon allowing more aggressive nocturnal feeding and therefore diminishing the daytime bite.
All that said, it was a beautiful day with clear water, ideal air and water temperature, and a slight gentle breeze.
We’ll be back soon to give it another shot. Thanks to the LVR staff for all their great help!
All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Ted Cribari, Los Gatos
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
