I had lowered my expectations coming out the morning after two days of stormy weather, high winds, and heavy rain.  Boy was I surprised!  The weather was picture perfect and the Lassen Rainbow Trout were biting like “nobodies business!”   I trolled the coves on the east side of the lake landing nine nice Lassen Rainbows keeping five and safely releasing four.  The largest fish was 4.4 pounds (photo below).  The total weight of the five fish that were kept was 15.4 pounds.  In addition I lost two or three nice ones right at the boat as they were not pinned very well.  The fish were caught a little deeper this week in the 25’ to 40’ water columns 8’ to 10’ below the surface.  Rapala J-9 rainbow trout colored lures were the ticket to success this week.  The surface temperature was cool at 54’.

Other  boat fishermen were  also doing well trolling and bait fishing.  Steve Tabuchi and his two friends were well on their way to limits with twelve fish on their stringer by lunch time!
Looking forward to another outing towards the end of next week after the storms pass through on Tuesday - Wednesday!

All the Best,
Paul Clouse
