Los Vaqueros Fishing Report

Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)

Paul Clouse, Al Hurwitz, and Abel Wong trolled several coves on both sides of Los Vaqueros Reservoir on January 22, 2026, catching eight and keeping seven good sized Mt. Lassen Rainbow Trout (one was released). Paul also hooked into a beautiful 8+ pound gold-colored Carp which fought very long and hard, and was also released. Pictured are two of the larger Rainbows weighing around 4.1 pounds and 3.7 pounds, the large Carp, and the group of us on the dock holding the seven Rainbows. The total weight of the seven Trout was close to 20 pounds.

All the fish were caught flat-lining jointed Rapalas on light tackle. They fought hard, providing great sport fishing.  The fish were caught about 7 feet below the surface in 20 foot water columns. The water was clear with a surface temperature of 55.5-55.8 degrees. It was a beautiful bright day with some cloud cover and a mild breeze. We plan to return soon, hopefully with the same result!

All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Abel Wong, Sunnyvale
