After a successful day of trolling for Trout on Los Vaqueros Reservoir (LVR) on 1/12/26, Paul Clouse joined Al Hurwitz on 1/15/26 for another LVR fishing outing. We trolled for Rainbows and caught seven, releasing two and keeping five. Pictured here are Al with a 2.5 pound Mt. Lassen Trout, Al and Paul holding a 3.3 pounder, and Al and Paul holding a stringer of the five Lassens. The aggregate weight of the five fish was 12.75 pounds. We caught the fish in both Howden and East Coves, trolling jointed Rapalas. They were in 18-25 foot water columns, and were about five to seven feet below the surface.
The fish usually struck hard, with occasional water clearing jumps. Three to four of them didn’t stay pinned, suggesting very light hookups. In almost all cases, the plug came out the fish’s mouth after it was netted. A bit unusual, requiring delicate playing of the fish to avoid losing them.
A beautiful day with little wind, plenty of sunshine, and great water quality. The water surface temperature was in the mid-fifties.
Another great day of fishing, which hopefully will continue if the beautiful weather continues. We thank the LVR staff for their excellent help in getting us on and off the water.
All the best,
Paul Clouse. Lafayette

Del Valle Lake Fishing Report
Del Valle LakePaul Clouse and Al Hurwitz trolled all sections of Lake Del Valle on December 11, 2025. We were hoping for a Rainbow Trout or a late fall Smallmouth Bass bite. We initially trolled 1/4 oz RoxStars and Joe’s Flies 16-21 feet below the surface in 15-30 foot water columns. No results! We then switched to Mooselook Wobblers and a Little Cleo trolled in the same manner. Still nothing! No bites. We traversed Heron Bay, Swallow Bay, the Narrows, the Marina...... Read More
