Thursday the 13th Fish & Game delivered a double trout plant of 2,000 lbs. and next week we will release the first two net pens full of trout. We raised 12 net pens full of trout this winter and F & G brought us bigger than normal size trout to begin with so the end result is bigger fish!! These trout will average between 2 to 3 pounds and are quite aggressive upon their release.

Harold, Don & Jeremy from Sacramento collectively caught a limit of trout from shore by the dam. They used PowerBait and the biggest ones were 2-3/4 lb. & 2-1/4 lb. Daryl & Drew also fished from shore with PowerBait and caught 4 nice Rainbows. Logan & Vincent trolled with worms and took home a gorgeous stringer of fish, including 2 bass and 2 trout.

Terry Murphy from Citrus Heights limited OUT on TROUT with worms or PowerBait and his biggest weighed 2-1/4 lb.

The Uhrich's from Oregon House topped off their fun day at the lake with the BIGGEST TROUT OF THE WEEK, his beautiful fish was 3-3/4 lbs. and he caught it on a Roostertail by the beach.

Cari Edgerton from Browns Valley found a "sweet spot" down by the dam and landed a 2-1/2 lb. trout while tossing a Kastmaster. John Rawlinson caught two trout using Powerbait. Paul & Levi Abruzzini from Browns Valley spent a day fishing at the beach and caught 3 nice trout, they used either worms or PowerBait.

Emily & Jim Evans of Roseville had a TERRIFIC day of fishing on the 12th! They trolled just under the surface in the first couple feet of water with nightcrawlers and hooked 7 Rainbows and a Crappie. Their big trout was a hefty 3 pounds and their Crappie was 1-1/2 lbs.

Dave & Don Myer had an equally great day, they took home a stringer of 7 Rainbows and they were fishing from the dam shoreline using PowerBait.

The most common colors of PowerBait used here at Collins Lake is chartreuse, rainbow, or yellow. Other colors such as orange or pink work too but the most common colors are the ones reported to us the most from our customers.

Surface temps ran from 50 to 53 degrees that day and the bass ranged from 3 lbs. to 5 lbs. in size. Since this last storm,...... Read More
