Winter fishing this year has been one of the best! Lots of trout were planted late fall, early winter and depending on the storms, most days are great fishing from shore. Today I spoke with a man who left by 11 am and he and his wife both limited out on trout. They were shore fishing in the Open Area close to the Water's Edge group camping area and started out using red Powerbait then switched to rainbow Powerbait and caught 8 more to reach their limits!

The water clarity is much better now that the lake is almost full, we only have 13 feet more to go before our lake spills. Shore fishing is just as good as trolling this time of the year. Trollers are using a single blade with a worm or Kastmasters, Needlefish or Rapalas. The deepest you would have to go is maybe fifteen feet.

Jill Curtis, Photo #1 of Grass Valley caught a 4 lb. Rainbow on rainbow Powerbait while Elaine Carter, Photo #2 hooked a whole limit off the beach on orange Powerbait, Elaine's biggest one weighed 2 lb. 2 oz. Bobby Nolan of Marysville had a very memorable day of fishing with his Dad (Steve) fishing from shore by the dam they caught a huge stringer of trout, pictured above. His Dad caught his biggest trout ever, a 2 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow on Powerbait. This week was full of great Catfish catches as well. Dan Davis, Photo #3 and his buddies from Oroville fished with Anchovies by the bridge after the rainstorm and left with a 15 lb. 8 oz., a 9 lb. 8 oz., an 8 lb. 8 oz. and a 4 pound Cat!! Darrin Nunes of Marysville brought up Chuck & Marissa Quinn, Photo #4 & Photo #5 and they all caught huge Cats too. Their stringer included a 15 lb., 8 lb., 7 lb. 12 oz. and a 6 pounder.
