In the Upper Kern, the CDFW stocked trout again this week, and both stockers and native fish are being found throughout the 20-mile stretch using split-shot salmon eggs, mini jigs, and spinners. Fly anglers are seeing good success with nymphs and stripping streamers, with dry fly action picking up in the afternoons. The Upper Kern River was stocked this week in Section 4 from Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville and Section 5 from Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge. In the Lower Kern, the CDFW stocked all three sections this week, including Section 1 from Democrat Beach to Lower Richbar, Section 2 from Sandy Flat to Democrat Beach, and Section 3 from Sandy Flat to Isabella Dam. Trout are being caught on salmon eggs, Panther Martins, and mini jigs, while largemouth and smallmouth bass action has been very good in the canyon and along the stretch leading into Bakersfield, with fish hitting jigs, worms, and small crankbaits. Catfish are also being caught on cut sardines and SSS Dip Bait, and at the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River is flowing at 1,064 CFS and the Lower Kern River at 967 CFS.
