Here along the Upper Kern River, trout are being caught consistently throughout the 20-mile stretch, with the most productive fishing coming from easily accessible areas. Local anglers report success using salmon eggs, crickets, and trout jigs. Fly fishermen are also finding fish with nymphs and by stripping streamers, while dry fly action has picked up later in the day. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked the Upper Kern this week in Sections 4 and 5, adding to the already steady bite. On the Lower Kern River, CDFW stocked trout across all three sections this week, including Section 1 (Lower Richbar to Democrat Beach), Section 2 (Democrat Beach to Sandy Flat), and Section 3 (Sandy Flat to Isabella Dam). Trout anglers are finding success using salmon eggs, small spinners, and mini jigs. The spring bass bite is going strong in the Lower Kern, with anglers reporting good action on jigs, worms, and small crankbaits. Catfish are also being picked up using sardines and Triple S dip bait. At the time of this report, flows on the Upper Kern River were at 1,139 CFS, and the Lower Kern River was running at 837 CFS.
