Trout fishing along the Upper Kern River has been consistent throughout the 20-mile stretch, with anglers finding success using spinners such as silver, Blue Fox spinners, salmon eggs, and trout jigs. Fly anglers are also picking up fish while drifting nymphs and streamers through deeper runs and pocket water. CDFW is scheduled to stock the Upper Kern River next week in Section 4 from Riverside Park in Kernville to Powerhouse #3, Section 5 from Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge, and Section 6 from Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. The Lower Kern River will also receive plants across all three sections, including Section 1 from Lower Richbar to Democrat Beach, Section 2 from Democrat Beach to Sandy Flat, and Section 3 from Sandy Flat to Isabella Dam. Trout throughout the canyon are being caught on salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, trout jigs, and spinners. Bass fishing on the Lower Kern has been steady, with anglers reporting action on crankbaits, jigs, and spinners, while catfish anglers are seeing success using dip baits, nightcrawlers, and cut baits. At the time of this report, river flows were running approximately 567 CFS on the Upper Kern River and 303 CFS on the Lower Kern River.
