Water levels fell to 79 percent of capacity at Castaic Lake, and water temperatures dipped below 60 degrees. Anglers are still contending with high winds, but the lake was open for launching. Large and smallmouth held in 15 to 50 feet of water with finesse baits and spoons working for bites. Drop shot and Ned rig fooled bass near cobble stone banks and bluff walls. Striper anglers trolled A-rigs and flies in 25 to 50 feet of water for striped bass to five pounds. The cut bait bite should begin soon, and fresh frozen sardines usually do the trick in 25 to 100 feet of water. Catfish picked up chicken liver, dip bait, and cut baits in deeper coves.
