by Chad Burton and Chris Borden
Fishing in the Upper Kern has improved since DFWL resumed stocking last week. In the 20 mile stretch anglers had success with salmon eggs, crickets, and worms. Fly anglers have been scoring fish with caddis in the afternoon. The Upper Kern was stocked this week in Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge. The DFWL have scheduled trout stocks in all three Upper Kern sections next week. In the Lower Kern, flows have decreased the last couple days by over 1500 CFS. The bass bite remains steady on crankbaits, jigs, and spinners. Catfish can be found on dip baits, nightcrawlers and cut baits. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River was flowing at 526 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 883 CFS.
