The Upper Kern River remains one of the best fishing areas around. Campers and anglers have lined the shores from Kernville up to Johnsondale Bridge. There were many reports of anglers scoring limits from various sections of the Upper Kern. The river is loaded with trout, and it was stocked in sections 4, 5 and 6 last week. The flows have been ideal, and fishing has been great throughout the 20-mile stretch. The best action has been with salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, trout jigs and small spinners. Fly anglers have had steady action with dry flies and nymphs. The Upper Kern was stocked last week in the following areas, Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville; Section 5, Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge; Section 6, Johnsondale Bridge to Fairview Dam. The Lower Kern River is kicking out both smallmouth and largemouth bass on Senkos, crankbaits, and soft plastics on drop-shot. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 149 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 484 CFS.
