7/28/20: Fishtraveler Guide Service, Eagle Lake Fishing Report and Update

Apologies. I have not posted a report for a couple of weeks due to being away from Eagle Lake dealing with family issues.

The Eagle Lake Trout are transitioning from shallower, warmer water to cooler, deeper water. Once they finish the transition, the bite should get better. However, we are still catching fish, landing limits to near limits trolling grubs and lures in deeper water.

Currently we are fishing the west side of the lake between Shrimp Island and Wildcat Point. We are trolling in water 20-45 deep, with downriggers set at 12 to 25 feet deep. Our best lures are red dot frog, gold/red, and orange/silver in color. Try these colors with Needlefish, Thomas Boyant, and Simoz lutes. For grubs, pumpkinseed and watermelon colors are best.  Our biggest fish this past week weighed in at 3lbs, 7oz.

Minnows are starting to show up under the dock at the Gallatin Launch Ramp.
Shortly we should see swarms of minnows all over the lake. The Eagle Lake Trout should start to feed heavily on these Tui Chub minnows and the bite should take off in the east side of the lake as well, from Gallatin Marina up to Miner’s Bay.

Fishtraveler Guide Service is available for guided fishing trips at Eagle Lake. All season. We leave the dock at 5 AM. All equipment is provided. You only need to bring your fishing license and eats and drinks.

Whether you are fishing with me or not, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about fishing or lodging at Eagle Lake. We are always glad to help.
