Fishing has been great at the reservoir. On Monday May 5th Bill Oliver from Concord was fishing with his friend Bill. They both caught 3 trout all around 4lbs, and one catfish. They had to use a variety of bait. They used chartreuse and rainbow powerbait and lemon twists, and worms. They fished early in the morning from a rowboat on the Southend. On Monday May 20th a local fisherman, Peter Wai, was also fishing off a boat from the Southend on a rowboat. He caught 2 bass, one 3 lbs and one 4 lbs, he was using plastic worms as bait. Our last trout plant was on Tuesday May 21st for 1,000 lbs of trout from Mt. Lassen hatchery. Our next trout plant is scheduled for the week of May 27th for 2,000lbs from DF&G. That will be our last trout plant of the season since the water is getting so warm.

The best bait is still the chicken livers for catfish and the nightcrawlers for trout. The bass are starting to spawn and so are being caught in shallow waters. One of our rangers has seen them right around the pedal boat dock next to our visitor center. Catfish, trout and bass are all still being caught....... Read More
