Los Vaqueros Outing
Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)
by Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz
10-2-2026
Al Hurwitz and Abel Wong trolled Los Vaqueros Reservoir on October 2, 2026, and hooked up with three beautiful Mount Lassen Rainbow Trout weighing 5.39 pounds, 4.3 pounds, and 3.66 pounds. In addition, we landed a 19.5 inch Striped Bass. The total weight of the four fish was 14.5 pounds. Pictured here are Abel with two of the larger Trout and Al with a nice Striper.
The fish were all caught in deep water off Cox Cove. We fished 100-125 foot deep water columns with lead core line down three colors (15 feet below the surface). We used streamer flies with Krlll and Shad spray scent applied. There were no bites in the back of either Cox or Howden Coves.
Weather was overcast in the morning, becoming quite warm around noon. Surface water temperatures ranged from 68-70. The lake is full with excellent water clarity. There was very little wind on our outing.
All the best,
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Abel Wong, Sunnyvale

We also hooked up with a decent 1-pound Largemouth Bass, and 2 Striped Bass, one of which just missed the limit length of 18 inches by 1/4 inch. The bite wasn't too bad in the morning, but seemed to die after 1 PM. We trolled...... Read More
Angler Report: Lake Del Valle
Del Valle LakeNo photos this week! Pom Avecilla, and Al Hurwitz trolled every section and shoreline of Lake Del Valle (LDV) on September 10, 2026, looking mainly for Bass. No fish and no bites. There was intense heat, clear sunny skies, and a high pressure system, all combining for a major fish lockdown. To quote artificial intelligence: “the extreme heat wave and intense high-pressure system on September 10 heavily impacted the fishing at Lake Del Valle, making for incredibly tough and sluggish......
