Despite that we’re midway through the summer and temperatures have been soaring, the trout bite is still on at Los Vaqueros.  The striper bite is also pretty hot!  You need to troll in the deep water columns for the trout.
   On 7/13 a total of fourteen fish were landed and safely released consisting of eight Lassen trout and six stripers.  All the fish were caught trolling Mickey Finn streamer flies with lead core line in deep water columns from 60’ - 100’ with the streamer down 15’ -20’.  The productive area was between Cox Cove and Howden Cove in the main lake.  The surface water temperature ran from 68’ - 71’.
   On 7/21 nine fish were landed consisting of five Lassen trout and four stripers.  The trout have moved into deeper water columns, 90’ - 120’, more towards  the center of the lake but still in the general area east of Cox cove and the marina.  The Mickey Finn streamer flies were used trolling 15’ - 20’ below the surface using lead core line.  The Lassen trout are very clean looking and full of fight!  The Lassens have been running 1.5 to almost three pounds.
