Lake Del Valle Outing

Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

Paul Clouse, Ted Cribari , and Al Hurwitz trolled Lake Del Valle on 6/25/26, hoping to hook up with Bass, including Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, as well as Striped Bass. We trolled deeper water in 20-60 water columns, and picked up 28 fish on the sonar unit. The fish were located 25-30 feet below the surface, and we tried to present our lures at that level, trolling a Mickey Finn Streamer Fly as well as RoxStar and Joe’s Flies inline Feathered Spinners. We had one massive strike on the streamer in Heron Bay, likely a large Striper. Regrettably, the line broke or was cut by the fish shortly after the strike. After that, no more bites!

It was a beautiful day with partially sunny skies, surface water temperature in the mid-seventies, clear water, and a light to moderate breeze.

We have no explanation for the fish lockjaw, but expect the conditions to improve, as the lake level and water temperature stabilize over the weeks ahead.

Hope to see you soon. All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Ted Cribari, Los Gatos
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga

Paul Clouse, Ted Cribari, and Al Hurwitz trolled Lake Del Valle on June 12, 2026, looking mainly for Smallmouth Bass and Striped Bass. Regrettably, it was very hot with intense, bright, and direct sunlight on the water’s surface. As a result, we only picked up a few fish on the sonar and had no bites. We spoke with Kenny Ku, expert fisherman and dock manager, before we embarked. He told us that professional fishing experts who had fished the day...... Read More

Paul Clouse, Abel Wong, and Al Hurwitz trolled San Pablo Reservoir on June 4, 2026, trying to catch some Rainbow Trout and Spotted Bass. We trolled all sections of the lake with Streamer Flies, Speedy Shiners, Panther Martin Spinners, and Mooselook Wobblers, all to no avail. NO BITES! The lures had scent applied and were trolled 15-25 feet below the surface in 40-60 foot water columns. The water clarity was fair with a surface temperature in the low 70’s. Not sure...... Read More
