A day on Siskiyou, a day on Shasta with Donna and Kevin. The past 2 days Mother nature threw a lot of weather changes at us, wind being the most difficult. Fortunately, each morning provided really good action with some fat Browns and Rainbows.

Tuesday we fished Lake Siskiyou in Mount Shasta. Trolling plugs slow 1.7 to 2.2 mph in the morning produced a steady bite. In the afternoon, trolling spoons fast at 3.5mph kept the bite going. All the trout were caught no deeper than 35 feet. The weather was fabulous in the morning, but by noon the wind made things a little more difficult.

Wednesday we fished Shasta Lake rather than Siskiyou due to the weather forecast, which as we all know is often not quite what it calls for. The morning surface bite was pretty good and produced the best trout of the trip a healthy 4 pounder. Trolling trout plugs at 3 mph lathered in ProCure bloody garlic tuna was best combo.

Spring can produce some of the most beautiful comfortable weather here in Mount Shasta and Redding but it also can be unpredictable. For me, wind is the biggest issue and unfortunately by noon on Wednesday it was gusting 20 plus mph. Pretty much killed the bite on Shasta. I will always make it right if mother nature hinders our trip.

With all that said, we caught some really nice fish but we also lost more than we landed. Some of these trout slammed our offerings and shook themselves off. Others seem to just bite it hard enough to be barely hooked. Getting bit is half the battle, keeping them on is the other. Sometimes you can do everything right and they just get off. That is why we fish we love the challenges.
