Ted Cribari, Al Hurwitz, and Kim Middlebrooks trolled Lake Del Valle (LDV), thinking we would be hitting various Bass species. Instead we were rewarded with some beautiful Rainbow Trout. Pictured here are two pictures of Kim with a large 5.8 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow, and one shot of Ted with another 2.9 pound Rainbow. Kim ‘s Trout was a career best! Al hooked up with what appeared to be a nice 2-3 pound Rainbow, but the fish spit the hook about 10 yards from the boat.
The fish were all caught on the western shore of the lake in the area of the Narrows. All the strikes occurred on Jointed Floating Rapalas coated with scent, flatlined about 6-8 feet below the surface. There were no strikes using feathered spinners or a streamer fly. The water was quite clear with a surface temperature of 66-67 degrees.
It was a slow day in terms of the small number of strikes, but the size, beauty, and terrific fight of the Trout made the outing very worthwhile. We thank all the LDV staff for their courtesy and great help in getting us on and off the lake.
All the best,
Ted Cribari, Los Gatos
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Kim Middlebrooks, Los Gatos
