Klamath River salmon fishing going strong

One of the few options for California salmon anglers currently is the Klamath River. Local guide Kevin Brock has been there for several weeks, with success ranging from red hot to just fair. "The last couple of days have been tougher than most of the season", reported Brock. "We are still hooking from three to six salmon per day, all of them beautiful bright chromers. Most of the salmon are running from 12 to 14 pounds, with a few up to 20 pounds. We are catching all of our fish on cured roe with a puff ball and 10 or 12-pound fluorocarbon leader."

"The limit up here is a pretty generous three salmon per day, one jack salmon under 22 inches, and two adult salmon over 22 inches. One hatchery steelhead per day is also allowed. It is not likely that anglers will catch the entire season quota, so we expect to keep fishing up here until at least the middle of October."
