Klamath River salmon and steelhead guides salmon and steelhead Fishing Report

The Labor Day Holiday weekend has come and gone and some really good salmon fishing was experienced most days this past week. There were many salmon in the lower Klamath River above the estuary late in the week and by the weekend a steady rain and cooler river temps moved fish upriver as reported by Klamath River salmon guides. On the better fishing days this past week anglers brought in two adult king salmon 11 to 16 pounds and a handfull of jack salmon 22 inches and under. Larger salmon to 30 pounds were reported off the bank at the estuary on Friday. Trolling around the estuary has still produced some great king salmon 12 to 20 plus pounds while trolling gold or copper Kastmasters lures or anchovies/spinner combos in various colors on some days this past week. The Commercial Gill netting quota was met on Friday, September 4th. Good numbers of King salmon should make it upriver in September for the Sportfishermen and women. The best upriver fishing was from Klamath Glen up to and beyond Blue Creek while side drifting roe and a Quickie puffball as reported by Klamath river salmon guides. Klamath River salmon and steelhead guides are reporting hooking half pound steelhead, adult steelhead, and both big kings and jacks mixed in making for an exciting trip. Anglers can expect more salmon and steelhead to enter the Klamath in September. A half a million adult salmon are estimated to return to the Klamath River this Fall making for some exciting fishing in September and October.
