Sacramento River Trout Guides Rainbow Trout and Shad Fishing Report

Some of the very best wild rainbow trout fishing can still be experienced right now on the lower Sacramento River from Redding, Ca. downriver to Red Bluff, Ca. as reported by Sacramento River trout guides. Most trout average 14 to 20 inches or 1 to 3 pound average with some 20 plus inches in the 3 to 5 pound class. Sidedrifting small egg colored glo bugs or Quickie puffballs have been best bet. Drifting live baits like crickets or crawlers have kicked out somsae good fish as well as backtrolled small Hot shot 50\'s or K-4 kwikfish. Multiple hook-ups are not uncommon and Sacramento river trout guides and Dave Jacobs have reported 25 to 35 rainbow trout per outing this past week. Shad fishing is now very good in Red Bluff, Ca. downriver to Chico, Ca. Best bets are small 1/16th ounce chartreuse, red or bright orange lead head jigs with small 1 inch curly tailed grubs in chartreuse, hot pink or red/white. Shad fishing should remain good through July. Multiple hook-ups are common on every outing. Trout fishing in Redding and switching over to shad downriver makes for an exciting day of fishing. Trout/ shad combo trips are available right now with Dave Jacobs of Professional guide service. Boats cannot go through the Cypress Street bridge construction site at this time. All boat passage is closed when river releases exceed 7000 cfs.
