Its been a long fall, and now start to winter without so much as a slight bump in lake levels on Shasta.  We saw over 3 inches of rain yesterday and it will help Shasta Lake begin its winter rise.  I never hope for too much too soon, but anything right now is going to help the lake start its winter-spring rise.  Sometimes the rapid influx of water into Shasta makes the fish tough to find, but I usually have an idea where to get into them.  Today was one of those days and it didn't take long to find some great trout bites.  None of the fish were small today, but as has been the case of late, our morning bite was short.  I got some good reports from other boats today as well and I was excited to hear more good news about the trout fishing today.  I have a busy week ahead, so I was glad to hear Shasta was treating everyone well.  We have some unstable weather coming so lets hope it doesn't mess with the bite too much.  Theres some nice rainbows around right now, but its time for the big browns to start their resurgence into the lake after their spawning period on the headwaters.  The surface bite has been pretty good, but a screen shot from a friends boat tells us it might be a good idea to get the baits down a bit deeper this week.
