Fishing at Lake Del Valle has been pretty good this past week. Catfish and Striper are being caught. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass have not been doing well this week.

Weather: The weather has been cool in the mornings then warming up during the day.

Clarity of water: Murky about 4-foot visibility near the Marina because of the boat traffic. Once you get past the Lower Narrows it clears up and it is about a 15-foot visibility.

Temperature of lake: 70 Degrees F.

Hot spots: Lowers Narrows, and the Dam.

Favorite lures for Bass: Swimbaits, Flicker Shad, Bass Jigs, and Kastmasters.

Striped Bass- Anchovies
Catfish- Anchovies.
Fish Plants: We did get two Trout fish plants this week from Mt. Lassen on Wednesday, 10-21-20, a total of 3500 pounds.

Once again here is a report from our very own Dr. Al Hurwitz:
Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled the lake on 10/22/2020 looking again for
different species of Bass. Regrettably, trolling the upper lake today in both the regions of Heron
and Swallow Bays did not achieve the same results as one week ago when we had caught a number of quality Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. This time we could only muster up two small “Smallies” in the upper half of the lake. However, we caught one nice Bluegill and three very nice Crappie in the southern part of the lake near the marina. The largest Crappie weighed around 1.25-1.5 lbs.! All the fish were caught on one of our favorite lures, the Panther Martin Spinner. We trolled 10-15 feet below the surface in 20-30-foot water columns. We applied scent to the lures. All the fish were released. These fish often relate to underwater structure such as timber and grass. The water in the lake was down 2-3 more feet from last week, but very clear and with a surface water temperature of 69-70 degrees. There has been a lot of fish activity over the past few weeks at the lake, including Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass (surface boiling today), good sized panfish (see above), and Catfish. In additions 3500 lbs. of Mt Lassen Rainbow Trout were planted in the lake yesterday! It’s enough to make you want to keep coming back to try your hand at catching one of the varied fish species in Lake Del Valle. As always, the office and dock staff were extremely helpful in getting us on and off the water. See you soon!
