Sacramento River salmon season Now Open!

Over many years of guiding thousands of clients to the best salmon, trout and steelhead fishing on the west coast, I have learned that there is much more to just hooking and landing the majestic king salmon.  These fishing experiences that I have had the pleasure of being a part of over the many years of fishing and guiding has taught me to recognize the human connection between family and friends, be it a grandfather and a young grandson or a husband and wife. We are all here to experience the great salmon fishing in Northern California, Southern Oregon and even Alaska.

When we are out on the Sacramento river either at Woodson Bridge , Jelly’s Ferry in the canyon or floating through China Rapids,  I can't help but reflect on salmon seasons of the past where all of the biggest names on the river were pioneering the very salmon fishing techniques we use today.  I  was that young salmon fisherman in a small rubber raft watching the greatest display of salmon guiding happening all around me.  Names like Hardy Dunn, Bob Wigham, Hank Mautz, Mike Bogue, Frank Townley just to name a few. I witnessed the “roe wars” between young guns like Scott Kenyon and Scott Ferris Jr.  reel in salmon after salmon on their own “secret” roe cure. Or the timeless salmon stories that the Holts, Al Vasconcellos and Marlon Gibbs left behind on the Sacramento River in the 1960’s, 70's and 80’s, all to be talked about every salmon season for years to come. What an experience watching all of the greats fish the Barge Hole, Big Rock, Hanks Hole, coyote creek, the slough, cowboy and the osprey hole. Some of these great salmon fishing holes are gone forever and now new ones are making a name for themselves like "the split",  "shit rock" ,"50 pound" or "Bamboo".

I have shared just a handful of these photos from these great experiences from 2006,2007,2008,2009,2010,2011,2012 just to pick a handful of years. Professional Guide Services experiences started in 1985 by legendary guide Hank Mautz and now, since 2004, has had guide Dave Jacobs at the helm.  These photos represent more than just a catch or a daily fish pic, they represent what has become an annual tradition that is a part of many of our lives, especially mine... the return of the mighty Pacific Northwest king salmon.

I have had the pleasure of sharing these salmon fishing experiences with three generations of families and I look forward to starting new salmon fishing experiences with many of the new young anglers that I have the pleasure of talking salmon fishing with everyday.

The Sacramento River salmon season is now open and will remain open through December 31, 2020.  If catching a king salmon with your closest friends or family members is something you think you would like to experience, don't hesitate to give me a call.  I am guide Dave Jacobs of Professional Guide Service and it would be my pleasure to deliver the salmon fishing experience that the Sacramento and Feather Rivers will offer this season in August, September and October.  It has been my pleasure promoting and sharing this great fishery with many from all over the world...the Sacramento River Fall run king salmon!

Enjoy the photos...we literally have thousands to share with you all.
