Bill,

It's been a while since I sent you a fishing report from the Lower Sac, well to keep it brief the fishing is excellent. There are still Salmon spawning on the Redds, some big ones at that. There is a good Mayfly Hatch going on, both BWO's and Sulphur Duns. Of course the trout are still showing a preference for the Salmon Egg imitation. The Spring Caddis hatch has started early as well. I'm not surprised given the weather of late. This last few days has seen the temps up to 70 degrees. Flows are low at around 4,500cfs. The problem with low flows is that there are to many fly fishermen wading on the Redds. It's a pity to see so much damage being done. I personally only fish from the boats around Redds. The worst part of this is the fact that many trout also use the same Redds and the people that wade on them are destroying our future fish. If you have to wade, don't wade on the Redds but keep to the sides. Yesterday I saw at least six fly fishermen doing this. I guess it's just a lack of understanding.

This year looks like it might be another banner year as 2006 was.

See you soon.

Tight Lines,

Barry Foster

We are getting reports of Spring-run Halfpounder Steelhead being caught in the Sailor Bar area. There are small Steelhead in there 12 to 18 inches and larger eating caddis and salmon fry. This is usually good March, April and May if we don't get any more big storms. I would look for them from early morning till noon and again about 3:00PM till dark in most riffles from the Nimbus fish hatchery downstream to Watt Avenue. At this time of year...... Read More
