The Smith River has received its fair share of heavy rain this week and dry sunny weather is welcomed to start this weekend into early next week. The Smith River is forecasted to drop quickly and with all of the high water events here this Fall/Winter, the Smith will clear and be in fishable shape quickly.  Currently at the time of this update the Smith River is on the drop (2-10-2017). Plunking from the shore or the boats will be the main game this weekend with driftable conditions late this weekend and early next week. There was a tremendous amount of steelhead moving upriver on the Smith at the beginning of this last storm and the Smith is famous for producing strong runs of steelhead in the month of February. Just days after the Smith River drops into shape anglers just across the California-Oregon border can expect the Chetco River to begin to fish again. Steelhead fishing outlooks for both the Smith and Chetco river's look to be very good for this coming week. Anglers looking for the greenest water of the week need to look no further than the Smith and Chetco river's as they are certain to be the number one choice for north coast steelheaders. Anglers are encourage to always call in advance for current river conditions as they can change quickly here on the Smith River.
