DELTA
Field scouts report some striped bass activity taking place below Decker Island for bait dunkers at anchor with most at or less than 18” minimum size requirement. but, it is possible to take a two fish limit averaging 18 to 22 inches if you put in the time. Some salmon moving through the system with only a few taken to 17 pounds off the shoreline at Benicia, Isleton and near Freeport Bridge. Silvertron spinners and Mepp’s Flying C’s are the two most productive lures as of late. largemouth bass are numerous throughout the Delta’s back sloughs averaging 1 to 3 pounds, up to an occasional larger fish in the 5 pound bracket.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY
Striped bass still holding off the rock piles with mostly schoolies in the 18 to 22 inch category. Halibut fishing is slow but the leopard shark fishing is still off the charts with many in the 40 pound range. Salmon showing off California City on the top of the high tides for trollers.

OCEAN
The salmon bite slowed down this past week with only fifteen salmon to 20 pounds for 31 anglers out of Sausalito. The bite was even slower at Bodega Bay where most boats focused on lingcod to 16 pounds from Fort Ross to Timber Cove. The salmon fishing was wide open for Eureka boats that run from the “jaws” and three miles outside Humboldt Bay. Kings have been averaging about 17 pounds.

CAMANCHE LAKE
This Valley impoundment is continuing to put out some of the largest rainbow trout in the area. Trout are averaging 14 to 24 inches in length with many larger fish in the bag responding to trolled lures such as speedy shiner, Needle Fish and Cripple Lures trolled at 3 mph near the dam.

AMERICAN RIVER
Fish early and late in the day for striped bass where anglers are tossing Zara Spooks and Pencil Poppers from Howe Avenue to Sailors Bar. Some are reporting 15 fish days with many weighing as much as 15 pounds. Not too shabby for a hot summer day.

UPPER SACRAMENTO RIVER
Occasional salmon to 20 pounds trolling with Kwikfish and Flatfish, or drifting with fresh roe at Hamilton City, Woodson Bridge State Park and the Barge Hole near the mouth of Battle Creek. The run is beginning to build.

Take time to go out and enjoy the great outdoors. Until next tide stay safe to fish another day.
Always check weather conditions before venturing out into the big waters.

ANGLERS, MARINA OWNERS, BAIT SHOP OWNERS AND OTHER FISHING RELATED BUSINESSES MUST TURN OUT FOR THE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION MEETING TO OPPOSE DELTA STRIPED BASS ERADICATION PROPOSAL!
We must show strong opposition to the petition submit to the California Fish and Game Commission by the coalition for a Sustainable Delta, a group of water contractors from Southern California headed by Beverly Hills agribusiness tycoons Stewart and Lynda Resnick who want to eradicate the Delta’s striped bass and largemouth bass, so-called predator fish that they allege are responsible for the decline of the Delta smelt and salmon, steelhead populations and not the excessive conveyance of water from the Delta. It has become very obvious and very imperative that we flood the meeting with anglers, sport shop owners, marina owners and all other fishing related businesses to oppose this proposal.
The meeting will be conducted August 24-25, 2016 at the Lake Natoma Inn and Conference Center, 702 Gold Lake Drive, Folsom, Ca. 95630
