The Kokanee are on the move and biting at Lake McClure

Excellent action continued here on Lake McClure this past week. With one exception from the previous weeks, the kokanee are moving off structure and moving out in open water.

This past week we caught numerous kokes out over the old river channel from depths around 60'. Small pods of fish are being located off the A-frame down towards McClure point striking small micro hootchies, small Sock-Eye Slammers and the smaller Ex-Cel spoons. All lures are being teamed with either Sling blades or Vance's dodgers with my most productive set-up being a pink-butt dodger and a pink slammer. Anise flavored Pautzke's Shoe Peg Fire Corn my scent of choice. Kokes to 17" and two plus pounds. For those seeking rainbows and or King salmon work the fingers on the south bank from Piney Creek down to the A-Frame from 55' to 70' using Pautzke's cured Fire Brine shad very effective this past week with salmon going to 22" and found bows to 20". Plain or colored bait both equally effective this past week when slow rolled at the above mentioned depths. Ed Brandi from Sonora joined me on Wednesday for a mixed bag of kokes, bows and kings and some terrific action here on McClure.
