The bite is on for the trout & steelhead fishing on the Sacramento River around Redding. The wet weather has blown out the majority of the river down stream of Anderson leaving a very limited area available for fishing. The water should clear soon, but many of the feeder tributaries have dumped a large amount of water into the river system.
The winter run salmon are still trickling into the upper sections of the river while the salmon smolt is traveling back to the ocean. The plug and spoon bite is off the hook for trout & steelhead! We have been landing 20+ fish per person every trip. The Fly Fishing has also been good in the Redding area while running nymphs followed by an indicator. The flows in the river are very low and it has kept the crowds off the water. We have been catching quite a few smallmouth bass between Anderson and Cottonwood on spoons while fishing for trout.
