Keeping Up with Kevin Brock
A quick note about fishing locations: Kevin is fishing in the Smith River in Northern California. Don't forget, he'll be at the International Sportsmen's Expo in Sacramento this coming weekend (details below).

Good Smith River Steelhead Fishing Continues
For the past couple of weeks, there hasn't been much rain up on the Smith River, so the water is low and clear. Does that matter when steelhead fishing?

Normally, yes...but not on the Smith River!

Several quality steelhead are being caught every day, and there are very few boats are out on the water to spook the fish. We might get a few dents in the bottom of the boat, but for these large steelhead, it's well worth it.

The biggest steelhead caught yesterday, for example, was about 13 pounds, and we're getting nice fish like that every day.

The rain started last night, and the river will rise. Lots of steelhead will be on the move, and the fishing will only get better.

The steelhead gear is the same as last week, with natural-color Pro-Cure Roe with a pink puff ball, with 8- or 10-pound test P-Line fluorocarbon leader with a No. 4 Owner hook.

With the low clear water, we're going light on the leader, and landing lots of steelhead.

The better casters and listeners are catching more fish, because steelhead (and trout in general) don't want to move far from their feeding lanes. Being an expert guide, Kevin shows you where all those feeding slots are.

If you can get your bait into that slot, there's a really good chance that a fat sassy steelhead is going to nail it!

If you've been holding off on going steelhead fishing because of water conditions, you're missing out on some great, uncrowded fishing, and a chance for the steelhead of a lifetime.

You might want to call Kevin today at 1-800-995-5543 and reserve a trip for these jumbo steelhead. The state record steelhead came from this river.

The angler in today's picture is Rusty Griner, from Menlo Park, Ca. This was his first time on the Smith River, and he loved it! Rusty hooked 4 steelhead yesterday, and landed 3 of them.
