Fishing conditions: Poor
Report: The flows out of McCloud Reservoir are currently high and the visibility is poor. Once the flows come back fishing will improve. We are seeing October Caddis coming off, this is a great time to fish the McCloud. Browns will be spawning now, and there are Blue Wing Olives coming off along with some other caddis and mayflies. For the Octobers, you can dead drift and swing an October pupa. It's early for the dry bite, look for fish to take Stimulators or your favorite October Caddis dry near the edges in the evenings. Mercer's October Caddis Skater or the Sedgeback fly can be a good dry for your dry-dropper rigs, you can drop a Possum Tail, Weiss Firefly, Walt's Worm, Olive Hotspot, or Sweet Pea easily. For the pupas like Mercer's TB October Pupa you will need a big Chubby Chernobyl or indicator. With most of the attention being paid to the Lower Sac and Trinity, this would be a great place to go now. To reserve a day with one of our expert guides to experience one of the most picturesque streams in the north state, call Bryan in Outfitters at 800-669-3474.
