Fishing on the Upper Kern has been very good, especially in Sections 4 and 5 from Powerhouse #3 through Riverside Park in Kernville up toward Fairview. Recent CDFW trout plants have boosted action throughout the 20-mile stretch, with anglers finding fish in deeper pools and easy-access areas. Spinners, trout jigs, and salmon eggs are all producing, while fly anglers are doing well with attractor nymphs and streamers. The Lower Kern is also providing good trout action with salmon eggs, GULP Pinched Crawlers, chartreuse garlic PowerBait, and spinners all working well, especially during the early morning and evening hours. Bass fishing has been solid through the canyon and into Bakersfield on soft plastics, jigs, and crankbaits, while catfish are biting cut bait, nightcrawlers, and SSS Dip Bait.
