Water Conditions
The Little Truckee River has risen slightly in the last week, but flows are still on the low side. Flows between Boca and Stampede reservoirs are currently about 65 CFS. Even with the low water, water temperatures remain cold due to it being a tailwater fishery. After the Labor Day weekend, water authorities may start increasing the water flow into the Little Truckee River.
Tips for the Week
With afternoon pale morning dun and evening caddis hatches occurring on the Little Truckee River, dry fly fishing has still been very good. Anglers should also be looking for blue-winged olives hatching on the overcast days. To have the best chance of catching a fish on the Little Truckee River, it's recommended to use a 4-weight or 5-weight 9-foot rod with a long leader to remain stealthy and make delicate presentations.
Suggested Flies
Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Henry’s Fork Caddis, E/C Caddis, Hackle Stacker Blue-Winged Olive, and Sparkle Sun Caddis.
