San Pablo Reservoir Fishing Report

Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled San Pablo Reservoir on 4/27/23 looking for Rainbow Trout and Spotted Bass. A tough day for trollers, perhaps due to an unexpected rapid rise in the outdoor and water temperatures, making the fish bite less aggressive. The folks who were fishing with bait did better, occasionally catching limits of Trout south of Scow Canyon near Sandy Point. We managed to catch two Rainbows (one around 1.5 lbs.), and two Spotted Bass mostly on Jointed Rapalas (one Rainbow was caught on a Kastmaster). Pictured below is Al with a nice two-pound female Spotted Bass caught on a Jointed Rapala and released. Most of our bites were south of Scow Canyon on the eastern shore. A number of Bass hits on the Rapalas didn’t stay pinned. Fish were hooked 15-20 feet below the surface in 25-30 foot water columns. Trolling speed=2.2-2.5 mph. All the fish were released. Water clarity keeps improving. Once seasonal temperatures and conditions stabilize further, fishing by all methods will continue to get better (particularly with the aggressive ongoing Trout stocking program). See you soon.
All the best, Dr. Al Hurwitz

Season Opener
San Pablo Reservoir

We would like to thank everyone who came out to support us for our season opener Friday Feb. 3rd and NTAC Northern California Trout Anglers Challenge Saturday Feb. 4th. The weather and fishing conditions were tough the massive storms we had at the beginning of the year really impacted the water level, visibility, and access to the lake. The rain we have had over the last few days is adding to it. Thanks again and we are happy to welcome everyone back.   ...... Read More
