San Pablo Reservoir Angler Report

Paul Clouse of Lafayette, Al Hurwitz of Saratoga, and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled San Pablo Reservoir on November 10, 2022. The weather was chilly, very clear, and with little wind. The water clarity was good with a surface temperature of 58.2-61 degrees.
We trolled all sections of the lake. Things were very slow for the first four hours, catching only one Rainbow Trout. We changed lures several times, but to no avail. However, the action really picked up around 12 Noon, when the Trout really stayed hitting Speedy Shiners trolled 15 feet below the surface in 20-25 foot water columns. We applied scent liberally to the lures. From 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, we caught six more Trout, most of them along the first 100 yards of the northern shore of Scow Canyon. However, the largest Trout was this beautiful 3.15 pound Mt. Lassen caught by Abbey north of Scow Canyon along the eastern shoreline. All the other smaller Trout were released .

The phases of the moon suggested that our best “lunar fishing option” would be from 12:30-2:30 PM. While not always accurate, the solunar calendar certainly worked for us today.

A very nice ending to our last San Pablo outing this year! Looking forward to hitting the reservoir in 2023.
All the best, Dr. Al Hurwitz
