We've arrived at the tail end of the 2022 Sacramento River fall King salmon season.  Undoubtedly the worst season I've ever seen in terms of how many salmon actually migrated up river.  River conditions have been very poor and most of the large schools of salmon that were in the fishing headlines all summer long simply never made their migrational push up river in July, August, and September like they normally do.  Fortunately we have experienced a cool down during the evenings the past few weeks and water temps down river have dropped significantly enough to trigger at least a small portion of our fall king salmon run.  We've seen an increase in the numbers of King salmon arriving in the Anderson area the past week and hopefully the tail end of this very late return will be abundant. Its not likely at this point that we will see the large numbers of salmon fisheries managers forecasted but perhaps we will see enough salmon in the system between now and the end of October to provide anglers with an opportunity to catch a few salmon before the fall season ends.  The October full moon lights the way for the final push of fall King salmon in October so it makes sense that we're seeing our catch numbers increase this week.  If you haven't had a chance to get out this season I would recommend taking the time this week or next to do so.  We will have more salmon available the next few weeks than we have had all summer.  If the weather holds, we should see some descent salmon fishing until the end of the month when the majority of our remaining salmon will shoot up into Battle Creek where they will return to the Coleman Hatchery to be spawned.  I'll report each of the next three weeks on the Sacramento River salmon fishing and will give the final bit's of information I have for the fall season.
