Both Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown Lake are producing favorable numbers of trout and landlocked salmon although we will likely see a slow down in the action with fall approaching fast!  There's plenty of fish to be had on both lakes for now and we've been taking advantage of their offerings this week.  Captain Anthony Cox of AC Guide Service checked in from Whiskeytown Lake today and reports lots of Kokanee staging in thw Whiskey Creek arm.  He found the best bite to be in the 50-60' range and pink micro hoochies behind a small dodger were the best attractor in the water today. Shasta Lake fished really well for me today and I got most of my bites in the 50' range troling spoons.  One stand out bait today though was a 2.5 silver Spin Fish stuffed with bloodline tuna off a downrigger at 70'.  Most of the trout on Shasta have been hanging out in the main body between the Sac Arm and Digger Point.  The Shad balls are disappearing so the Shad bite won't be long for this fishery soon.  All in all the aforementioned lakes are a great option this weekend and will fish well into the next week I'm sure.  The lakes will start cooling this next week and will trigger the fall changes we typically see in the bite patterns on both lakes.  By November we'll be chasing big browns up the McCloud Arm as they begin their annual migration up to the spawning grounds.  Stay tuned for future reports on the Redding area lakes, we'll be fishing them throughout the fall/winter seasons.  Thank you!
