Fall Weather Conditions-Cool Comfortable

Look for Mid 80s this weekend with scattered clouds and mild breezes in the late afternoon. The forecast for next week calls for much the same until Wednesday when clouds will move in creating a slight chance for some showers. Water temperatures are currently 66 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 73 degrees at surface in the Marina. Water visibility is clear to 15 feet. Water level dropped another 2 feet making the water level about 18-20 feet below the spill and holding.

BANK FISHING ---- The Recreation Area was a ghost town this morning, no bank fishermen visible from the parking lot. Stony Point Landing, the Woodpile and Rainbow Point provide better access to the deeper cooler water in the Recreation Area. The water in the Recreation Area is pretty warm so folks are casting 30 feet out or farther from the shore to end up in the deeper cooler water that the fish prefer. Clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below or sliding sinker setups that suspend the bait off the bottom are the ticket. Kastmasters or black/green woolly buggers are very successful right after a plant. Power eggs, maggots and power worms in white are the best, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular. Chartreuse power bait with sparkles is always effective.

TROLLERS----Trolling for Trout has been very good running parallel to the line of buoys in the South end. Boats are reporting limits of good size trout in two to three hours. The Mouth of the River and up the River Arm to Columbia has also been productive but not quite as good as the South end as of late. The depths for trout remain at 20 to 50 feet. Medium size flashers with small red or pink lures tipped with half a night crawler has been the most effective.

CATFISH----Lots of catfish are still hanging out in the coves along the eastern shore starting right outside the Narrows. Vienna sausages, stinky chicken livers, pepperoni pizza and spam are the baits working the best.

To date 73,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game.
