Castaic lake held near 59 percent of capacity, and water temperatures were in the mid-fifties. Bass anglers encountered similar conditions as those seen over the last several weeks, but there’s been a change for the better. Some bass moved up for the spawn, and anglers fooled them with Senkos, drop shot, and Ned rigs. The bite isn’t wide open yet, but it has improved. Striper anglers reported excellent fishing for line sides to 20 pounds while using magnum sized topwater and sub-surface trout imitation baits. The zebras also went for trolled flies, umbrella rigs, and cut sardines. Most of the striped bass action occurred near the marina and the dam, but anglers also reported solid fishing in the ski arm. Last week’s trout plant kept anglers busy catching rainbows. Anglers filled stringers with two-pound trout while using dough baits, Get Bent Minijigs, and spinners. Catfish anglers had another good week, and the whisker fish ate dip bait, cut anchovies, and nightcrawlers along the dam.
