Things may change, but as far as I'm concerned, spring has arrived here in Northern California.  The lakes are teeming with fish and the water temps are on a slow rise making for a better bite most days we're on the water.  The mornings have been a bit on the slow side as far as bites, but it heats up quickly and we've seen early limits this past week or at least by the end of the day.  We're seeing a few browns, but I'm pretty sure a location change is in order.  With several of the boat launches still closed, I've been tryig to avoid the more crowded launches and thats making for long runs to the other areas I should probably be looking at for the big browns right now.  The Sugarloaf Marina docks are in and the low water ramp up there is a great option right now, but its getting really busy now too.  Kings and Kokanee will be showing up in the mix, especially after our April Striper season ends and we're back on the lake in May.  All the lower lake areas between the Pit River bridge (I-5) and Shasta Dam will be where we'll find the best fishing May through August.  All in all I think we're in for another great spring/summer season on Shasta Lake and some of our clients are going to be getting into both size and numbers in the next week or two.

All of our guides are permitted to fish Shasta Lake through the USFS.  The permit process is extendive and expensive but for good reason.  The USFS vetting process protects recreational users of Shasta Lake who are paying for services from businesses operating on Shasta Lake throughout the year.  Before booking a fishing trip or paying for services on the lake, make sure your guide is permitted to operate on the Lake or you may find yourself in an embarrassing situation with a USFS Park Ranger.
