Copes Tackle and Rod sponsored and stocked over a thousand pounds of trophy lightening and Rainbow trout in both lakes this morning. The fishing should be excellent with the large stocking from Copes Tackle. Both lakes have been filled up with water for this plant and the Bakersfield Firefighters Fishing derby next weekend. Trout have been coming on Get Bent Baits, Powerbait, Mice tails, pinched crawlers, and spinners. The bass bite has improved over the past couple weeks, and they can be found with soft plastics, jigs, and crankbaits. Bluegill are fair on worms. The Annual Bakersfield Firefighters Fishing Derby & Pancake Breakfast will take place next weekend on Saturday, February 5th. Both lakes will be stocked with 2500 pounds of Lightening and Rainbow trout. There will be trophy fish over 5 pounds that will be tagged and worth up to $1000. Every entry ticket receives a pancake breakfast and a raffle ticket. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for largest fish in 6 different age groups.
