Striped bass fishing improved substantially last week and it appears that the spring run is finally arriving. Soaking sardines at the mudline at the mouth, drifting minnows throughout the lower stretch of river from Yuba City to the mouth, and even swinging flies at Boyd's Pump, were all scoring bass. Most were schoolie males from barely legal, at 18 inches, to fish up to 20 pounds.

Another big bass beat out the long-standing lake record here last week, the 13.4 pounder hitting a Camanche Jack's stand up bladerunner jig with a Basstrix minnow trailer. Rising water levels have the bass moving up on rocky structure in the main lake. Trout action was still best for the shore anglers, top tactic casting a clear bubble with a Power Grub trailer.
