Sacramento River salmon fishing July 4, 2021

Get ready….wether your ready or not, opening day and all of the antics that come with it are almost here!  Many salmon anglers have been on the sidelines anxiously awaiting this opening day for six months. July 16th marks the opening day of salmon fishing on the Sacramento River and there is nothing quite like it in Northern California.

Exactly one hour before sunrise on July 16, 2021 anglers will release their offerings to the bottom of the Sacramento River in hopes of that big bite that so many travel the world to experience, the take down of a Sacramento River king salmon.

The Sacramento River is home of the second largest salmon producer on the west coast, only second to the mighty Columbia river watershed. On July 16th below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam salmon anglers will try their luck at salmon fishing. The Sacramento River is rich in fishing history here in California as the Sacramento River is home of revered California State record king salmon….a whopping 88 pounds!  This massive king was caught in the very same waters and with the same salmon fishing techniques that you will experience on a day salmon fishing on the Sacramento River with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service.

We have seen some incredible salmon fishing in the salt this Spring and early Summer.  If this great ocean fishing off the coast of California is any indication of the big quality of king salmon that are preparing for their upriver migration into the Sacramento River, we are in for a solid salmon fishing season. I have shared some of the saltwater salmon photos in this report courtesy of my good freind and captain who can be followed at chenzos_wayoflife.

In addition to the Sacramento River salmon fishing there are now salmon fishing trips available on the Trinity River 30 minutes west of Redding California.  Salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs is licensed on both the Sacramento and Trinity Rivers and has two special U.S. Forest Sevice permits on the Trinity River as well as a two special Bureau of Land Management permits on both Sacramento and Trinity Rivers.

The spring salmon fillets on the Trinity River are incredible this time of year. We are currently in the Kenai peninsula chasing gigantic king salmon and enjoying world class sockeye salmon and Cook Inlet halibut.  We have fine tuned all of our "old style" kwikfish on huge king salmon getting them ready for our clients in California on the Trinity and Sacramento Rivers. We have also cured many pounds of fresh salmon roe with our special Sacramento River cures in preparation for our long 5 and a half months of salmon fishing on the Sacramento River beginning on July 16, 2021.
