KIDS DERBY SATURDAY JUNE 6TH RAIN OR SHINE

Partly cloudy with a chance of rain and thunder showers are forecast for the weekend.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-60s. The long range forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, chance of showers, possible thunder storms and temps in the low 60s at least until Tuesday of next week. Water temperatures will drop a little, look for 65 degrees at surface and 59 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility will clear as the rain subsides and runoff ends. Visibility is 12 to 14 foot at the Marina.

BANK FISHING ---- The weather has kept all but the hardiest shore anglers at home this morning. Until the rain started this morning the bank fishing was still pretty good in the recreation area. The most popular spots continue to be Tom Sawyer Island (particularly under the foot bridge), the Launch Ramp, Jackson Creek spillway, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Some anglers have reported doing well at Mistletoe and the Woodpile. Using clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below has gained a loyal following lately while others continue to use the sliding sinker setup. Silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular. Chartreuse power bait with sparkles is also very effective.

TROLLERS----Trolling has quieted down due to rain and lightning. Weather permitting boats are working the River Mouth, the face of the Dam, up river as far as Columbia and some were running the barrel line in the South End. Trout have remained at 20 to 30 feet but the Kokanee are deeper still at 40 to 60 feet. The Kokanee have been plentiful, most are in the 8" to 11" range with an occasional larger buck to 15 inches. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, bugs, sling blades or flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, small spoons or spinners, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver, watermelon or silver/green dodger.

UP COMING EVENTS---- The annual Kids Tank Derby will be held this Saturday June 6th from 8AM to 12PM at the tanks in the main parking lot. No state license or fishing permit required for Kids 2 to 15 years of age. All fishing equipment will be provided-lots of prizes and a hot dog lunch available directly afterward for $3.00. No charge to participate in the Derby; however, there is an $8.00 day use pass required for Park entry.

CATFISH----Saw lots of boats in coves this morning, probably still fishing for catfish. There have been some nice cats caught recently along the eastern side of the Lake. Stinky chicken liver and Vienna sausages are usually very successful.

To date 55,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant scheduled for the near future.
