What a way to start the day when fishing the Sacramento River for King salmon! Both groups did a great job today!

Today Captain Justin and I ran two seperate groups on the Sac River below Corning and found a pretty good bite early and then again in the afternoon.  River water temps are perfect to hold migrating Kings, but a lot of fish are still blowing through the system.  You either have to run around and find them, or sit tight and wait for a bite from holding salmon.  This makes for a spotty bite most days, but we're fishing full days and coming in with fish most of them.  All of us agree that we've seen better seasons in Corning at this time of the year, but its still good enough to keep us commuting south from Redding daily.  Everything has been late this year and we're still hoping for a steady push of salmon very soon.  Just like our lakes this summer, the Sacramento River salmon seem to be spread throughout the system and not holding in their typical locations in big numbers.  One last consideration is that we are seeing some much bigger fish this year so the quality salmon are making up for the lower numbers some days.

Jeff Goodwin is a full time Northern California fishing guide.  He guides year round for salmon, trout, steelhead, Kokanee, and bass on Northern California rivers and lakes. He fishes many bodies of water in the Redding area, but also guides the Sacramento River and Feather River during certain times of the year. Jeff can also be found on the California coast chasing ocean fresh King salmon and steelhead each year.
