Man, they just keep coming!  I say that like its a big surprise but, its just that time of the year on the Sacramento River again.  Theres more excitement this year than in the past several, merely because we know we will have more salmon in the Sac this year.  Reckless, self serving, ocean salmon lobbies nearly wiped out our Coleman hatchery stocks the past few years and fishing has been diminished to record lows after the "trucking program" created what some have described as the largest stray run of fall salmon the Sacramento river system has ever seen.  Thankfully,  it was only a two year mistake and this years returning fish are the result of smolt releases from thier hatchery of origin. We're already seeing the best early run of salmon we've seen in years.  We should see a big push of fish any day now and after that, there will be plenty of salmon around to keep the river anglers busy until the end of October for sure.

Jeff Goodwin is a full time Northern California fishing guide.  He guides year round for salmon, trout, steelhead, Kokanee, and bass on Northern California rivers and lakes. He fishes many bodies of water in the Redding area, but also guides the Sacramento River and Feather River during certain times of the year. Jeff can also be found on the California coast chasing ocean fresh King salmon and steelhead each year.
