Its spring on Shasta Lake and that means its time for the spring Kokanee Power trout derby!  Boats from near and far have been trolling the lake in preparation for this weekends tournament for the past several days.  This puts more pressure on trout that are already adjusting to the warmer water temps and the rise and fall of lake levels we've seen all spring.  Fortunately, we've spent a lot of days on Shasta again this year and its really helped us pattern the bite and locations of the rainbows and browns.  The Shad migration has begun and the trout will be following or waiting for the big schools to arrive in the main lake within a few weeks I'm sure.  In the meantime, we'll be trolling 30'-40' down looking for our bites and putting in full days.  right now we're seeing an average of 10 bites a day, but that will soon change and we'll be looking for limits instead of bites.  Is going to be a great year for trout fishing on Shasta Lake!
