Los Vaqueros Fish Report
Los Vaqueros Reservoir - Livermore, CA (Contra Costa County)

2-26-2007
GENERAL CONDITIONS: Trout are still the talk of the week; we had a plant on Tuesday 2/20, with many very nice 2 and 3lber's. Power Bait (chartreuse and white with glitter) has been working very well in all areas of the shore. All you active anglers have really hammered the south cove. The weekends are typically busy; a nice second option is Oak Point, typically not talked about too much; that area has been producing a nice trout catch. The rock wall was busy during the early part of the week with several limits. Boat activity this week has slowed.
Just a reminder, we will be having our annual 5,000lb plant on March 17th St Patrick's Day, it's a Saturday. If you weren't here last year, check out the pictures in the marina for all the fantastic catches from just that plant.
On April 28th. we are presenting our first annual disabled children's fishing day. I'm looking for approx. 20 volunteers or so who would be interested in piloting one of our boats for the kids. There will be one or two children (possibly with wheelchairs) and a parent in each boat. All you have to do is take them out for half a day and show them a little about fishing. Free half day for all who are interested, let us know if you're interested. A form is available by contacting the marina at 925.371.2628.
Always check http://www.ccwater.com - click on Los Vaqueros, scroll down and look for the web cam that is listed at the bottom of the center column in purple letters.
The ADA pier and the rock wall have still remained the backbone for shore anglers whether it's trout or bass. The water temperature has hovered around 64 degrees this week. This is one of the great occurrences at Los Vaqueros; the water temperature stays cool all year round. This enables us to plant trout all year. It is unique in that being a wide body of water with both a good depth (125') and lots of wind that the water surface temperature stays in the 50-60 degree range which is excellent for year round fishing. Discounts on boat rentals include 50% off on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Updated conditions for Los Vaqueros, including wind and temperature, are available by visiting, ccwater.com/losvaqueros/conditions.asp.You can also sign up for Los Vaqueros specific newsletter from CCWD by visiting ccwater.com/losvaqueros/lvemail.asp .
Important reminder: No private vessels are allowed in the watershed. Rowboats, kayaks and float tubes are prohibited, no pets are allowed in the watershed. Also, no smoking is permitted on the watershed shoreline; there is one designated smoking area directly behind marina, thank you. Please participate in our creel census by telling us that you caught a fish at the marina or note it on your permit.
